The Big 3 Necessities - Aetna Health Insurance

Author: Rodrigo Malen

When shopping for Aetna health insurance there are three main things the consumer will need to focus on. These three details are the major forces that drive Aetna healthcare prices up and down. For every consumer, there is a new way of looking at health care. Some people want coverage that will be there only if they need it for a major emergency. Others want to choose an Aetna health plan that covers every doctor's visit from the first to the last. Whether budget is an issue or not, the top 3 price changing details will drive your choice in Aetna health plans.

The Deductible. Of course, the most important detail is the deductible. The deductible is the amount of money the consumer must pay for services before Aetna will kick in and start covering health benefits. What some people do not realize is that ALL claims need to go through Aetna health in order to count toward the deductible. The claims may be reduced to what Aetna health would pay for the service and THAT amount is the money that will be credited toward meeting the deductible.

For instance, if an X-ray is charged at $100 and Aetna will only cover $80 - that $80 will be counted toward your deductible even if you have to pay the entire $100 bill.

The Out of Pocket Maximum. Nearly every Aetna health insurance plan requires the consumer to pay some sort of money out of pocket. The out of pocket maximum is the total amount of money the consumer has to pay before the Aetna health plan will cover 100% of the remaining health bills. Most of the time, this amount is in the $5,000 to $10,000 range. The more people covered under the Aetna health plan, the higher the out of pocket maximum will often be.

Savings Account or Traditional Aetna Health Plan. For consumers who are tired of paying out of packet every month for Aetna health plans they never use, there is an inexpensive alternative. The health insurance savings plan allows the consumer to pay a small monthly fee and save money in a savings account to use for medical bills. The total amount of the savings, in most cases, will roll over from year to year. This type of Aetna account can save some consumers a LOT of money.

For instance, take the family who pays for regular health insurance care. The total price they pay is $140 a month and they have a $500 deductible. In the last two years, the only health related bill was a well visit for their 5 year old twins. The visit was not covered because they had not met their deductible so the couple paid the $150 out of pocket. In two years, the couple has paid $3,510 for health care and related costs and they have none of that in the bank to use for future health bills.

Aetna is a choice in health care that can be molded to fit individual needs. Not every consumer or health insurance need will be the same and Aetna will work with each and every consumer to find the perfect insurance plan that will provide the coverage they need at a price they can afford.
